Global Education Student Assessment Tools

Global Education Student Assessment Tools Inventory
Okay, so we're fascinated by the dynamic concept of global education and its implications for the future of students. How do we go about assessing the skills student are learning in a globally-infused curriculum?

Here are some rubrics that are available:

There is a fairly simple yet comprehensive one created by Ed Steps and the Asia Society, found inside the Asia Society's Checklist to Teaching Global Competence. This is a comprehensive overview of and rationale for global competencies and how educators can guide students towards developing specific skills to become global citizens.

Oxfam has also developed a guide for incorporating global competencies into the curriculum, with a clearly-defined list of key elements necessary to understand and develop global citizenship:  Values and Attitudes, Skills, and Knowledge and Understanding.

Yet another rubric was created by the Metiri Group in cooperation with NCREL.

For our purposes, since we are already grappling with the transition between the Sunshine State Standards and the Common Core, I feel it would be best to read these overviews and rubrics, and then adapt some of the Common Core standards to explicitly include global competencies, as I have attempted to do in my global unit plan and in the Standards-Based Global Education Updates, according to subject area and curriculum. This makes it possible for a teacher in any discipline to incorporate global perspectives and create rubrics without necessarily having to adopt completely new standards.
